As a lively place of discovery, the Museum Angewandte Kunst has been focusing on the perception of social trends and developments with a focus on design, fashion and the performative since its reopening in April 2013 under the direction of Director Prof. Matthias Wagner K.

Against the backdrop of its important collections, it aims to make the hidden visible and create relationships between the events and stories surrounding things. The changing exhibitions tell of cultural values and changing living conditions. In addition, they always refer to the question of what applied art is and can be today and show the inherent tension between function and aesthetic added value.

With new presentation formats, the Museum Angewandte Kunst is distancing itself from the traditional collection and classification criteria dating back to the 19th century. Instead of dealing with the objects solely on the basis of their history, the museum has moved on to discussing and negotiating contemporary and non-contemporary considerations, giving rise to questions that are addressed in thematic exhibitions with ever new constellations of objects.

The presentation Elementarteile. From the collections is central to this. For this "museum heart chamber", exhibits were selected from all areas of the collection, geographies and periods, which stand side by side precisely because of their diversity.
