Overbeck-Museum

The painter Fritz Overbeck (1869-1909) was one of the five founding fathers of the Worpswede artists' colony. Together with Fritz Mackensen, Otto Modersohn, Heinrich Vogeler and Hans am Ende, he established the international fame of the artists' village on the Weyerberg, which still radiates to the present day. Fritz Overbeck left Worpswede in 1905 to settle with his family in "Bröcken bei Vegesack", now Schönebeck, where he died in 1909.

The Overbeck Museum shows a changing selection of works by the Worpswede artist couple Fritz and Hermine Overbeck. In addition, special exhibitions address related
themes, for example with a focus on landscape painting or art from Worpswede. The museum also provides a forum for contemporary artists. Regular guided tours, lectures, readings and art trips round off the program. With its nationally acclaimed exhibitions, popular series of events such as the short guided tours for the "Painting of the Month" and its special offers for children and young people, who have Free admission to the Overbeck Museum, the exhibition venue has long since established itself as a cultural highlight in the region and beyond.
