In 1974, Dortmund's soccer temple opened its doors for the first time. For the opening, the home team BVB and FC Schalke 04 competed against each other. But the first goal in the new venue was scored by a woman: 17-year-old Elli Podschwadke scored in the run-up to the BVB match in a duel between the women's teams of Dortmund's TBV Mengede 08 and VfB Waltrop. Signal Iduna Park also hosts other cool events away from the soccer matches from time to time.
