Museum Insel Hombroich

Nature, art and architecture - nowhere else are they united in such an ideal, mutually beneficial way as here.

"For me, Hombroich is not just the construction of a museum, but the attempt to find a new way of life," said museum and foundation founder Karl-Heinrich Müller (1936-2007), summarizing his utopian guiding principle.

He not only wanted to give his extensive collection of modern and contemporary artworks and artefacts from Asia and Africa an appropriate location, but also to create an open field: a symbiosis of museum and artists' site, nature experience and recreation, a place for art and architecture as well as for literary, philosophical and musical events.

Opened in 1987, the daylight museum Insel Hombroich covers an area of 21 hectares and is home to eleven walk-in sculptures by Erwin Heerich, some of which are used as exhibition buildings.
