The Städel Museum is a private foundation and to this day is largely based on the generous support of the citizens, foundations and companies of the city and region. Works from over 700 years of art are collected, preserved, researched and communicated here. With a program and digital offerings, the Städel Museum provides unique access to art across generations, eras and styles - in the spirit of its founder Johann Friedrich Städel. These are spaces for sensual experience. And for important questions. Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? Works of art also provide inspiring answers to these questions.

Today, the Städel Collection offers an almost complete overview of 700 years of art - from the early 14th century through the Renaissance, Baroque and classical modernism to the present day.

Highlights of the collection include works by artists such as Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Dürer, Sandro Botticelli, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Vermeer, Maria Sibylla Merian, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Max Beckmann, Lotte Laserstein, Francis Bacon, Louise Bourgeois, Gerhard Richter and Wolfgang Tillmans.
