The tanzhaus nrw is an internationally renowned center for contemporary dance based in a former Düsseldorf streetcar depot. With eight dance and rehearsal studios and two stages, it covers an area of 4,000 square meters. Week after week, more than 1,500 guests visit the tanzhaus nrw, which serves as both a performance venue and a production facility. Since its founding in 1978 as a "workshop," the house has developed into a respected cultural institution under the direction of Bettina Masuch (2014-2022). Since 2022, the tanzhaus nrw has been directed by Ingrida Gerbutavičiūtė.

At tanzhaus nrw, the diversity of dance is represented in its entire range. Professional and non-professional dancers, choreographersas well as artists of other genres come together here to experience dance under the roof of a single institution. The tanzhaus nrw overcomes the division between high, sub and socio-culture. It places a special focus on the creative exploration of the human body and its role in contemporary societies.
