In summer, our famous beer garden is open from Monday to Saturday from 18:00. In bad weather, the pub is open from 19:00.
On Fridays and Saturdays we have a club from 22:00.
The Ulenspiegel consists of two buildings: the club cellar with table football for parties and cultural events and our pub with billiards and darts.
We also have a beer garden, where we hold events in the summer and where you can play table tennis or beer pong.
What the name means:
The Low German words ule and spegel mean owl and mirror.
But holla: the Middle Low German word ulen also means "to wipe", and the word spegel also means buttocks. The exclamation "Ul'n spegel!" therefore means "Wipe my butt", vulgo "Lick my ass".
History & How To
The Ulenspiegel has been around since the 70s and has also been a dance bar since 1993.
We're a little proud that we've been there for you in Giessen for so long. We make an effort and think it's great when our audience notices. Here are a few tips:
Fridays in particular are always very busy. We don't let anyone stand in the queue for fun or "because it looks better". That's why we recommend getting there early.
In summer, we recommend our fabulous beer garden for a pre-brew. Caution: If you want to go down to the cellar after the beer garden without stress and queuing, it's best to get a stamp right at the beginning of the evening and have no more worries. Without a stamp, you'll have to queue when the doors close at midnight, even if you've been in the beer garden all evening.
Please note that we check the IDs of all guests. So please have a valid ID with you if you want to enter the club.
If you leave the store (and this does not mean the outside smoking area on the right), you will unfortunately have to queue at the back of the queue when you come back in. If you need to buy some cigarettes, please discuss this with the doormen, it's no problem.
Please do not bring your own drinks. Because many people don't understand this, bags and rucksacks are checked at the entrance. Please also leave water bottles outside. You can take your bottles back with you at the end of your evening. Tap water is free at the front counter. (The back counter does not have a water tap).
Unfortunately, the Ulenspiegel is relatively small and therefore we have to chase you out of the hallway area if you stand in the way to use your cell phone or peek into the girls' bathroom. This is a safety requirement that we have to adhere to. We ask for your understanding.
We have no love for people who piss in our and our neighbors' yards. This inevitably leads to a ban from the house. Anyone from the queue can pee past the queue in consultation with the doormen.
