The Scientific Library of the City of Trier has important and valuable holdings from the Middle Ages and modern times. It holds a total of over 430,000 volumes, including around 3,000 manuscripts, 95,000 printed works up to 1850, including around 3,000 incunabula (prints up to 1500), 38,000 prints from the 16th and 17th centuries, 2,000 autographs and 6,500 graphic sheets and portraits.

The Scientific Library of the City of Trier is a public cultural and scientific institution of the City of Trier. As a general academic library, it is responsible for the preservation, maintenance, cataloging and provision of manuscripts, printed works and special collections as well as their communication to the public. This includes regional literature and a basic stock of scientific literature in all subject areas.
