Abeja Productions presents An Iliad, a multi-award-winning solo play, celebrating its European premiere. From October 9 to 11, 2025, actor and producer Matt Posada will perform at the Internationales Theater Frankfurt. Additional shows follow in December 2025 and February 2026. 

Written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O’Hare, and honored with the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show, the play has captivated audiences and critics in the US for years. Now, it arrives in Europe – right in the heart of Frankfurt.

An empty stage, one storyteller: he conjures the Trojan War, giving voice to Achilles, Hector, the gods, and countless nameless soldiers. The rage of the heroes, the grief of the victims – all merge into a gripping monologue, until the storyteller himself is overcome by emotion. 

An Iliad is not a mere retelling but a visceral experience of violence, loss, and the relentless repetition of history.

This play feels especially urgent today: With over 120 conflicts raging worldwide, the questions of war, trauma, and identity are more pressing than ever. Homer’s Iliad, composed nearly 3,000 years ago, reflects on the cost of war and resonates powerfully with our present. Performed in English, it speaks both to Frankfurt’s international community and to curious local audiences. For Matt Posada, who grew up in Frankfurt and has appeared in productions such as Tina – The Tina Turner Musical and Moulin Rouge, the production marks a homecoming to his hometown stage.
