Ashenspire is an experimental metal group formed in 2013 as a means of exploring the contradictions inherent in a contemporary capitalist world, tracing its roots from the empire-building of prior centuries to the neoliberal project of the modern world.

Machukha [Ukrainian: "step-mother"] utilises elements of post-black metal, emotional hardcore, and punk. Their debut album ‘Mochari’ is about resilience. It explores the human capacity to withstand atrocities and continue surviving day by day. Natalya, who sings exclusively in her native Ukrainian language, uses her voice as an outlet for genuine anguish. The band's lyrical and musical narratives reflect their own journey - allowing oneself to embrace pain and learn how to let go of it, by surrendering to it.

Ashenspire

Ashenspire is an experimental metal group formed in 2013 in Glasgow, Scotland. Their music fuses the experimentation of avant-garde jazz, the abrasiveness of noise rock, the political anger of anarcho-hardcore punk and the intensity of post-black metal, to create an overwhelming catharsis of righteous fury. They debuted in 2017 with Speak Not of the Laudanum Quandary, a critique of British Imperialism, before rising to international recognition with its critically-acclaimed follow up, Hostile Architecture, in 2022. Its explicit anti-capitalist and leftist politics positioned Ashenspire as one of the leading voices of the RABM (Red and Anarchist Black Metal) movement, and featured prominently amongst the most highly rated metal albums of the year throughout the music press. It went on to inspire the short film We Used to Own Houses (2023), directed by David Robinson- Smith and debuting at the Melbourne International Film Festival. They have since performed throughout Europe and the UK, including significant festivals in the metal and experimental calendar such as Roadburn, Arctangent, Perpetual Flame, Damnation, Amplifest, Northern Winter Beat, Desertfest, and Supersonic. Their live shows are noted for their intensity, the energetic stage presence of the band and the visibility of queerness in what is often an overwhelmingly cis/heteronormative scene. They are currently writing the follow up to Hostile Architecture.

Machuka

The music consists of intricate guitar melodies steeped in melancholy that melt into intense waves of rhythmic fury from the bass and drums. Each musical element supports the others, with every moment and note carrying a specific intention. Together, they create a sonic landscape that thoughtfully guides listeners through precise emotions from the very first second.

For their debut, Machukha has self-produced three music videos that form a continuous story, for which they used their additional skills: Natalya designed and hand-made six sets of modernised traditional Ukrainian clothing, while Bláthin directed. Bláthin also performed as an extra in the videos using her knowledge as a professional dancer.
