1953 übernimmt Frantz Fanon, ein französischer Psychiater aus Martinique, die Leitung der psychiatrischen Klinik in Blida, Algerien. Angesichts des institutionellen Rassismus und des kolonialen Systems revolutioniert er die medizinische Praxis und schließt sich dem Unabhängigkeitskampf an. Als zentrale Figur des Antikolonialismus prägt er die Geschichte durch seine Schriften. In diesem Spielfilm zeichnet Regisseur Jean-Claude Barny jene entscheidenden Jahre (1953–1956) nach und porträtiert den Autor von DIE VERDAMMTEN DIESER ERDE und SCHWARZE HAUT, WEISSE MASKEN. Zum 100. Geburtstag Fanons zeigt FANON die ungebrochene Aktualität seines Denkens.

In 1953, Frantz Fanon, a French psychiatrist from Martinique, took over as head of the psychiatric hospital in Blida, Algeria. Confronted with institutional racism and the colonial system, he revolutionized medical practice and joined the struggle for independence. A major figure of anti-colonialism, he left a lasting mark through his writings. In this feature film, director Jean-Claude Barny revisits these decisive years (1953–1956) and paints a portrait of the author of THE WRETCHED OF THE EARTH and BLACK SKIN, WHITE MASKS. On the centenary of his birth, FANON highlights the enduring relevance of his fight.
