Begüm Aslan

Begüm Aslan is a double bassist and soprano whose work explores the connection between voice and instrument. With a background in classical repertoire and opera, she brings together contemporary, avant-garde, and traditional influences in a unique solo format, singing while playing. In collaboration with composers, she develops and premieres new works for this format, which has also led to the creation of a composition prize dedicated to it.

Danica Hobden

Danica Hobden is an Australian guitarist, improviser, and band leader currently based in Hamburg, Germany. She enjoys crossing musical boundaries between folk, jazz, rock, and classical genres, as well as interdisciplinary explorations into theatre and film and for this special performance at Hörbar will be presenting a new solo guitar work "In Flight : Dja Dja Wurrung" coupling recent voyaging into inverted guitar playing (left handed guitarists playing on right handed instruments) with camera drone footage taken in outback Victoria.

Shuoxin Tan & Xiang

Shuoxin Tan (b. 1984, Beijing) is an electronic music composer, researcher and improviser living and working in Cologne since 2020. Her research currently focuses on Lacanian topology, algorithmic acoustics, and mathematical formalisation. How to apply „purloined" theoretical knowledge into artistic practice is her curiosity. She approaches and works between composition and improvisation, which often happens in specific space, intertwined with the exploration of physical movement and auditory perception. 

Xiang was born in 1984 in Chengdu, China. A member of ‘eon’, ‘Neanderthals Orchestra’ and ‘Soldier’. As a musician she uses field recordings, noise, violin and body as materials. Her work focuses on the subtle changes in sound and space. Adapted to each environment, Xiang carries out site-specific performances of improvisation, composition and collaborative projects with different musicians and artists. She is also engaged in organizing events, including the Vital Sounding Festival, which she has presented once a year from 2017 to 2024 in China, and the Daybreak Concert Series which happens irregularly since 2023 in Chengdu, Beijing and Berlin.
