Der 20-jährige Khalilou lebt allein mit seiner Mutter in Dakar. Sie ist an Krebs erkrankt. Jahrelang hat sie viele Aufhellungscremes verwendet, um so auszusehen wie die Frauen auf den Werbetafeln, und sich damit selbst vergiftet. Um ihr Gerechtigkeit widerfahren zu lassen, beschließt Khalilou, sich als Frau „Leila“ zu verkleiden und an einem universitären Schönheitswettbewerb teilzunehmen. So will er von innen heraus das kaputte System herausfordern. Dieses soziale Märchen demontiert das in der Kolonialzeit geprägte Schönheitsideal und feiert gleichzeitig Schwesternschaft, Identität und Widerstandsfähigkeit. TIMPI TAMPA hat beim AFFK seine Deutschlandpremiere.

20-year-old Khalilou lives alone with his mother in Dakar. She has cancer. For years, she has used many whitening creams to look like the women on the billboards, poisoning herself in the process. To do her justice, Khalilou decides to disguise himself as the woman “Leila” and take part in a university beauty contest. In this way, he wants to challenge the broken  system from within. This social fairy tale dismantles the ideal of beauty shaped in the colonial era and at the same time celebrates sisterhood, identity and resilience. TIMPI TAMPA has its German premiere at the AFFK.
