Sinners is a supernatural horror thriller by Ryan Coogler set in the Mississippi Delta of the early 1930s. Two twin brothers return to their segregated and poverty-stricken homeland to open a juke joint as a cultural haven for the African-American community. But their new beginning is overshadowed by a supernatural threat that embodies the past, guilt and social exploitation in monstrous form.

The film combines vampire mythology with historical realities of the Jim Crow era and uses blues music as a central narrative and symbolic element. Sinners was celebrated for its thematic depth, formal consistency and acting performances and set a historical record with 16 Oscar nominations - more than any film before it.
