24. Benefizkonzert des Lions Club Leipzig „Johann Sebastian Bach"

For a quarter of a century, the Lions Club Leipzig "Johann Sebastian Bach", together with the Leipzig Music School and the Vladimir Filatov School, has been bringing music to children who live their enthusiasm for music despite their visual impairment.

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the 24th benefit concert will take place in the Alte Börse am Naschmarkt - an evening rich in tradition that combines music, social commitment and Leipzig's cultural history.

Music as a bridge
The idea for this special concert series was born in 2000: Joachim Reinhold, a lawyer with a musical background and founding member of the Lions Club "Johann Sebastian Bach", initiated a collaboration with the Leipzig Johann Sebastian Bach Music School. Teachers there also provide musical education for visually impaired or blind children. Together with Nora Nienke, a long-standing music teacher at the Wladimir Filatow School in Leipzig, the project was created and continues to this day. The aim is to support musically gifted pupils with special needs and offer them opportunities to perform in front of large audiences.

Support with a lasting effect
Over the past 24 years, the Lions Club has enabled 26 pupils to attend music lessons at the music school - half of the tuition costs are covered in each case. In addition, the club has financed visits to the opera, leisure activities and the purchase of musical instruments worth over 15,000 euros. Numerous Leipzig companies support the initiative as sponsors.

Program and participants
This year's concert program ranges from Elton John ("I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues", "I'm Still Standing") to Reinhard Mey ("Ich denk', es war ein gutes Jahr") and Rosenstolz ("Lass es Liebe sein").
The three organizers - Nora Nienke (music teacher), Reiner Schubert (Leipzig Music School) and Joachim Reinhold (Lions Club) - set a special sign of solidarity with a joint musical performance. In doing so, they show that music connects people and enriches their lives.
