A Tribute to R. A. Ramamani

In the organizer's words:

A very special concert experience awaits you at the Recklinghausen Music School: six internationally renowned musicians from Europe and India dedicate themselves to the musical legacy of the extraordinary singer and composer R. A. Ramamani.

Ramamani, deeply rooted in South Indian carnatic music, was also a musical border crosser. With great openness, she sought exchange with Western musicians and thus helped shape the development of "world music" at an early stage. Her performances are unforgettable - for example at the Berlin Jazz Festival - where she thrilled audiences with her voice, her compositions and her impressive rhythms.

The tribute project brings together musicians who knew Ramamani personally. Together, they bring her music to life in a new line-up - a fascinating combination of South Indian tradition, jazz and free improvisation.
