When rooms sing - A concert performance with Johannes S. Sistermanns & Joachim Zoepf

When Johannes S. Sistermanns sets the 39 strings of his monochord vibrating - with his hands, stones, metal bowls or his own voice - soundscapes are created that are more than just music: they are living resonance. Every note played enters into a dialog with the room, every sound changes its atmosphere. Together with saxophonist and bass clarinettist Joachim Zoepf, the result is an intense, expansive listening experience.
The two exceptional musicians not only tune in to each other, but also to the individual frequency of the respective location. In this case, it is the rooms of ART AGENTUR KÖLN, creating a situational sound installation between improvisation, composition and performative presence.
Because every room has its own voice - and the ABE NSEMBLE makes it audible.
With soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, voice and monochord, a sonic cosmos unfolds that breaks away from classical concert forms. There is no rigid dramaturgy, no repetition. Instead: Openness, unpredictability, intensity. Every moment is unique. Every performance is unrepeatable.

Johannes S. Sistermanns is an internationally active composer, sound artist, performer, author, lecturer and curator. He studied with Mauricio Kagel in Cologne and Indian singing in Benares/Kolkata. He has lived in Paris, New York, Kyoto and Tokyo, worked with John Cage and has been awarded the German Sound Art Prize and the German Music Writer's Prize, among others.
Joachim Zoepf is one of the leading representatives of free improvised and electro-acoustic music in Germany. The former musician of the legendary Cologne Saxophone Mafia has been developing his own style of playing between jazz, new music and electronic sounds since the 1980s. He has been honored with the German Record Critics' Award and is in demand internationally as a soloist, ensemble member and sound researcher.

On the last day of the festival, experience a concert that is not only meant to be heard, but felt: In the premises of ART AGENTUR KÖLN, a sound space unfolds in which music, location and audience come together in a tangible way.
