With Girl Missing, Albertine finally gives us the heartbreak soundtrack to the end of a long-standing friendship. To moments of emotional turmoil that are very similar to the end of a love affair, but also different. And multi-layered in both mood and tone, just like these wonderfully refreshing songs between soul, indiesque pop, psychedelics and rumbling, charming folk moments. Albertine explores loss, vulnerability, nostalgia and longing through the lens of sisterly friendship in a joyfully fearless, personal and serious to self-deprecating way. Recorded over two winters in her studio in Berlin's Marzahn district, she has meticulously curated her ideas for this biography of a special love. Each song has become a work of art in its own right, at times bobbled, dabbed and knotted with flutes and choir vocals, at others finely plucked and soaring with organs, drums and electric guitar. The signs point to introverted extroversion, to coloring in photo albums and tearing up the pages a little, to embracing the world with small and large gestures of music and song in a solidary and wonderful-sounding sisterhood.
