1989 and the East German experience in pop | Verbrecher Verlag | Reading & Talk

Between neon and gray shimmer the many stories about 1989/90 and the East with all its contradictions and conflicts. Pop culture tells of this, in gangsta rap from East Berlin, in novels about the Brandenburg province, in films about new beginnings and break-ups.

NEON / GRAU brings these stories together and brings them into conversation with each other - about freedom and loss, belonging and exclusion, youth and violence, rural areas and gender relations.

The contributions are complemented by Hendrik Bolz, Marion Brasch, Paula Fürstenberg, Aelrun Goette, Max Hertzberg, Harald Homann, Katharina Kollmann (aka Nichtseattle), Grit Lemke, Maren Möhring, Daniel Peisker (Astro Ritter Kollektiv), Vũ Vân Pham, Manja Präkels, Peggy Piesche, Masha Qrella, Tucké Royale, Regina Scheer and Bettina Wilpert.

Anna Lux (*1978) holds a doctorate in history. She has researched the history of universities and science and has been working in the field of popular history culture for several years. In Freiburg/Breisgau, she works in the joint project The Contested Legacy of 1989, a cooperation between the universities in Leipzig and Freiburg.

Jonas Brückner (*1989) is a cultural scientist and lives in Leipzig. He works on transitions between research and mediation on gender histories, masculinity research and (post-socialist) cultures of remembrance.
