Anne Sauer "In the life next door"
A young woman wakes up one day in a different life: no longer in her city apartment with her partner, no, in her home village with her childhood sweetheart and baby. Anne Sauer tells the story of how one's own life could have turned out if one had not taken the one decisive fork in the road. "Im Leben nebenan" mirrors two scenarios of a young woman's life, alternating between two versions of a life and, with humor, emotion and lightness, takes a look at the horror of wanted and unwanted motherhood: the great happiness of having a child, but also of living without a child (dtv 2025).
Anne Sauer, born in 1989, lives as a freelance copywriter and presenter in Hamburg. She is part of literary juries and has been recommending current contemporary literature for many years, including in the podcast 'MONATSLESE' or as @fuxbooks on Instagram. In 2022, the German Publishers and Booksellers Association presented her with the Young Excellence Award for her work. In 2024, she published her highly acclaimed essay on Taylor Swift, which went straight onto the SPIEGEL bestseller list. "Im Leben nebenan" is her debut novel.
