Anne Schloen and Harriet Zilch, curators of the exhibition "Colour Crush" in conversation with the artist Sebastian Kuhn.
Numerous sculptures and installations by artist Sebastian Kuhn revolve around optical and perceptual phenomena. Foldings, mirroring, transparencies and reflections are not decorative effects, but constitutive elements of his works. Light functions not only as a means of visualization, but as a material in its own right: it defines spaces, modulates surfaces, creates color and integrates the viewer's movement into the work. In this way, the relationship between object, space and perception is continually renegotiated.
Kuhn's work is characterized by the transformation of industrial or everyday found objects: By deconstructing and recoding them, they lose their original function and
function and create new spatial and visual spaces of experience for the viewer.
