Since the insolvency of Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof at the latest, the once richest Austrian has also achieved a high level of recognition in Germany: René Benko dominated the headlines for months with the bankruptcy of his real estate company Signa Holding in 2024. It became the biggest bankruptcy in the Second Republic of Austria. German state aid amounting to millions also virtually vanished into thin air. Numerous cities now face the threat of building craters for years to come. An impenetrable mixture of unscrupulousness, billionaire cliques and a patchy financial system seems to have paved the way for this. In January 2025, Benko was remanded in custody in his home town of Innsbruck. Director Calle Fuhr and DOSSIER worked together for months to unravel the story of the rise and fall of the "miracle whiz" Benko. The result is a special evening of theater somewhere between stand-up, TED talk and lecture performance, which had to move from the smallest to the largest venue due to the great demand at the Volkstheater Wien. After guest performances at the Berliner Ensemble and an invitation to the Radikal jung Festival in Munich, Calle Fuhr's entertaining solo is now coming to the stage of Schauspiel Köln in an updated version.
