Barbara Trommeter, born 1981 in Dachau,

studied conceptual art from 2001-2007 at the Academy
of Fine Arts Munich (class of Prof. Ingold), numerous exhibitions have taken her to Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Hong Kong, among others,
She has been living and working in Genoa (Italy) for three years.

Her artistic work spans "a wide range from sculptural and installation works to drawings, prints and photography.
What all her works have in common is the creation of their own worlds, counter-worlds and their metaphors: places, spaces and beings are alienated, reinterpreted, ambiguous, hyperreal."
This is particularly evident in her current presentation:
"REFACING |RECLAIMING | RECODING"

Here, she reworks the smooth surface of print media templates - magazines, advertising banners
or posters in a radical way! The visual facades, the symbols of a present trimmed to perfection, in which bodies often function as interchangeable products, are physically broken up by massive gestural and pasty reworking > refacing .
The manipulative smoothness is destroyed and transformed into an autonomous, rough pictorial space that gains a tangible, haptic density. This process is an act of reconquest > reclaiming.
Where media structures degrade the individual to an object, the overpainting sends a stop signal. The original coding of the image templates is corrupted and reprogrammed > Recoding.
Recoding.
In the process, a consistent deconstruction of gender norms and traditional role models takes place. The drawing removes the body from the judgmental gaze and gives it back its independence. In this process, disintegration and failure are not deficits, but necessary breaks - the birth of a new, strong subject. In a world that relies on smooth processes, her work asserts the right to obstinacy and the unpredictable.
