Ausstellungseröffnung, Lesung und Gespräch: „Erst recht!“ – Bilder von Unterdrückung und Widerstand

The exhibition "Erst recht!" shows pictures by the artist Sophie Linde of oppression and resistance and can be seen until June 20, 2026 in the Waldheim "Clara-Zetkin-Haus" Sillenbuch. As part of the exhibition opening, Sophie Linde will talk to the writer Mesut Bayraktar (most recently "Die Lage" and "Linke Melancholie") about the possibilities and limits of class-struggle art.

Mesut Bayraktar will read from his poetry collection "Linke Melancholie" about anger, loneliness and solidarity, whereby melancholy does not appear as a paralyzing melancholy, but as a source of utopian power. Based on his essay "The Proletarian Body", the focus will be on aesthetics in the class struggle and the role of creative artists in the face of real violence and powerlessness in the struggle for social change.

What must art look like to promote class consciousness and combat shame, self-hatred and individual resignation? It is about the challenges of developing a current political (visual) language and the relationship of art to knowledge and political education, also in comparison to visual art and literature.
