Flea market, children's flea market, yard sale, food markets in Stuttgart
Stuttgart dawdles with a view, in the truest sense of the word. The city lies in a cauldron, and this cauldron is packed with markets that are really worth a visit. The first address for anyone who regularly goes bargain hunting is the flea market on Karlsplatz: week after week, the square fills up with antiques, design objects, books and clothes, in (almost) any weather, and has long been a firm institution in the city. Anyone who has been there once will come back, usually with a find under their arm that somehow felt unavoidable. Things are a little wilder and bigger at the Cannstatter Wasen, one of the largest flea markets in Stuttgart in terms of area, where the offerings range from furniture to tools to collections of all kinds and the dates are mainly spread over spring, summer and fall. Those who prefer to browse in a neighborhood atmosphere should keep an eye on the courtyard flea markets, where Stuttgart residents transform their courtyards and gardens into small pop-up markets several times a year and the whole neighborhood takes part. This is not a curated shopping experience, but real neighborhood hustle and bustle, and that's exactly what makes it so good. The flea market on Marienplatz in the south of Stuttgart also takes place regularly and has become a popular meeting place for anyone who prefers to spend their Saturday morning among second-hand treasures rather than in the mall. It doesn't really matter which market you end up going to, as there is hardly a bad choice in Stuttgart. You can find an overview of all current dates and events here.
