Baby Smith (Alternative, Indie-Pop)

Ray Sonder and Saxon Gable grew up in sleepy coastal towns on the east coast of Australia. Their parents were hippies and rockers. Nirvana and the Beatles were blaring on the car radio whether they wanted them to or not. Both were self-taught and began writing songs at an early age, evoking the tranquil beaches of Byron Bay and the wild Gondwana rainforest that was more or less their home.

During their studies, they wrote dreamy, sun-drenched demos that they uploaded online and burned onto CDs for their friends. Inspired by the colorfulness of small-town beatniks and surfers and the romantic soundtracks of their youth, the foundation for Baby Smith was laid long ago. But neither Saxon nor Ray knew each other at the time, although their paths had probably crossed.

The two moved independently from Sydney to Berlin within two weeks of each other to discover new subcultures and write songs. They met and married soon after. Their shared love of the quirky, intimate and deeply melodic sounds of 1960s psychedelia and 1990s grunge bonded them spiritually. Their creative union was followed by musical exploration and experimentation, which led to the formation of Baby Smith in 2023.
