BART DAVENPORT

CONCERT

Date: May 3, 2026 20:00

Bart Davenport has many faces: he has been a mod, a blues singer and a soft rock troubadour. He is an eclectic singer-songwriter with a timeless crooner's voice. His songs are both smooth and unruly, transporting us to an imaginary past or present, peppered with romantic odes and enigmatic characters. Davenport's stories are often a reflection of the now; they are set in a fantasy world, yet they convey personal and universal truths. He has now recorded twelve new songs in his home studio in Los Angeles - a return to acoustic guitars and 60s baroque pop sounds.

Davenport's latest material inspires the imagination and offers an escape from the turbulence of the present, but is also to be understood as an unusual commentary. Whether digital antagonists in "Holograms", dancing oligarchs in "Billionaires" or enigmatic nudists in "Naked Man" - many quirky characters populate the funny little world that unfolds in Davenport's verses. His voice sounds particularly soft at times, then again he sings in a somewhat cheekier, more dramatic baritone. He seems to have a patent on the ever-present happy/sad mood, with the occasional jazzy harmony thrown in for good measure.

On "Episodes" (Tapete Rec/2022), Davenport plays numerous instruments, but he did not record the album alone. Numerous guests played a decisive role in the production: drummer Graeme Gibson enhances many of the tracks with his nonchalance, including the Kinks-like "It's You". "Easy Listeners" delights with the tropical samba flair in which Davenport likes to wallow, this time supported by the accomplished percussionist Andres Renteria (Jose Gonzales, Rodrigo Amarante). The Turkish psychedelic-inspired "Strange Animal" features futuristic organ riffs by Aaron M. Olson (L.A. Takedown), who produced Davenport's previous album ("Blue Motel" by Bart & The Bedazzled). Long-time bandmates Jessica Espeleta (bass) and Wayne Faler (lead guitar) also make an appearance.
