Percussion instruments meet modular synthesizers - what sounds like monochrome soundscapes on paper proves to be quite a grab bag on the debut album by Berlin duo Bella Wakame. Their debut single "Toutpartout PT2", released in 2023, still had a rather repetitive feel - a bubbling ripple under which you never really knew what was lurking on the surface. Their self-titled debut album (Umor-Rex 2025), on the other hand, is full of playful melodies and wonderfully electro-acoustic textures that are carelessly dissected time and again.Andi Haberl is responsible for the drums and sensory percussion - known as the drummer of The Notwist, he also recently made an appearance with his wonderfully warm, airy solo album as SUN. Florian Zimmer brings his knack for modular synthesizers to the grooving trio Saroos, among others, and creates expansive soundscapes with Driftmachine. Bella Wakame brings all these qualities together - and fuses them into something very special, unique and fresh. The songs pulsate, chug and tumble, sometimes eccentrically, usually relaxed and powerful. In between, there are flashes of experimental soundscapes that ultimately merge into swinging song structures. We are looking forward to a colorful evening in Elektroland.
