Kids as media experts

The latest results of the image researchers are presented at the KKT Café.

This year, the young media experts not only took a close look at their own selves, but also experimented with very different topics and forms of expression - creatively and curiously! Using portrait photography, surreal art and other imaging media, the participants rediscovered their self-image, tried out new perspectives and showed what is possible with images. Not a standard selfie - but art with attitude, imagination and a spirit of exploration.

The Bilderforscher:innen are a permanent group of young media enthusiasts between the ages of 10 and 14 who meet regularly every second Friday (except during the vacations) at the jfc Media Center Cologne. Together they take photos, film, experiment - and research what is possible with images. The project has been running since 2021 and is led by photographer Nadine Preiß. At regular meetings and in workshops, the young creatives learn lots of cool techniques and methods for using the camera. For example, the children worked with the 360° camera, light painting, body projections, creating cinemagraphs, photographing reflections and using a green screen app. And, of course, video clips were also shot. They do whatever the children want, but of course photographer Nadine Preiß gives them suggestions and supports them in realizing their ideas. Other artists are also regularly invited as guests.
