The family history of the world-famous "Piano Man" is as exciting and moving as a novel, because it reflects the dramatic history of the 20th century - it is about life and death, war and peace, success and defeat, rock and roll.
Nuremberg journalist and author Steffen Radlmaier has unearthed this dramatic story and documented it in his successful books "The Joel Story" and "Billy & The Joels". At the discussion concert, he presents it with live music: well-known singers Stefan Angele and John Marshall interpret Billy Joel's most beautiful songs, accompanied by keyboard specialist Werner Kandzora and other well-known musicians from the Nuremberg scene. This is a very special kind of tribute.
Billy Joel's family comes from Franconia. His grandfather, a Jewish entrepreneur from Nuremberg, had to flee Nazi Germany and ended up in New York after an adventurous escape. His grandson, who became world-famous as Billy Joel, was born there in 1949. The list of his timeless hits is long and ranges from "Piano Man", "Just the Way You Are" and "New York State of Mind" to "River of Dreams" and "My Life". A whole series of these evergreens can be heard at the talk concert.
There will also be an impressive slide show with photos of Billy Joel's family history and career.
