Whether cobalt, lithium or gold: more than 60 raw materials are required for the production of a smartphone alone. The supply of goods to Germany and Europe is highly dependent on extensive supply chains that connect continents and involve numerous players from the extraction of raw materials to the sale of the end product. In recent years, the vulnerabilities associated with the interconnectedness of the global economy have become increasingly apparent.

Political scientist Dr. Melanie Müller (Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik/SWP) and journalist Dirk Böttcher (e.g. business magazine brand eins: "Die Ökonomie der Elemente") will discuss the social, ecological, economic and geopolitical limits to the extraction of and trade in natural resources.
