Buchpremiere: "die leere in der orangerie" von Patrik Peyn

On September 17, 2025, Patrik Peyn will read from his debut poetry collection die leere in der orangerie for the first time at Bücherwelt Ehrenfeld.

With the poetry collection die leere in der orangerie, we can stroll through botanical gardens in various cities. Some of these gardens are still used for research, others are said to have been dismantled for the sole purpose of local recreation. The empty greenhouses are an echo of the old days and comments from the off. This volume of poetry records the sound without a recording device in order to show the field of tension in which these gardens exist. Whether and how the cars crash past on the streets next to them or complete silence reigns between the trees, whose names are all clear. Botanical gardens are already eloquent places that have a lot to say about the plants they house, their contexts; scientific, post-colonial. Yet these gardens are never quite tangible places, despite their clear structures they lack something that is not immediately visible: the time that has passed and the time that is yet to pass. The collected poems are on the one hand a speculative look into the future, into the posthuman, and on the other an insight into the world of plants, their words, their language, their grammar and also reports on those cities that in turn house the gardens, the paths to them, the way back; a movement through North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond, a network of gardens; a network of cities, a volume of poems in strict form: 62 characters of 11 lines each.

Botanical gardens in Hamburg, Wuppertal, Cologne, Essen, Munich, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Neuss, Dortmund, Bochum, Krefeld, Duisburg, Solingen and Vienna are described.

Patrik Peyn was born in the province of Lower Saxony sometime after the fall of the Berlin Wall and before September 11th. These major world-historical events did not shape his youth for the most part, but this is the time frame in which he grew up. More formative was and is the loneliness, the distance of some atoms from each other, sitting too far forward in the movie theater; driving as well as inhibiting factors of his work. Nevertheless: he writes & writes & writes. In 2024, he completed his studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. This year, he took first place in the Moor Literature Prize. die leere in der orangerie is his first volume of poetry.
