Bundesjazzorchester: Thank you, Peter!

To mark Peter Herbolzheimer's 90th birthday, the Bujazzo under the direction of Jörn Marcussen-Wulff is dedicating itself to the music of its founder.

The Bundesjazzorchester honors its founding father and long-time artistic director Peter Herbolzheimer. He would have turned 90 this year and is still considered one of the most influential bandleaders, composers and arrangers in Europe. He shaped the big band sound for decades and laid the foundations for the promotion of young talent in German jazz.

The musical director of this program is Jörn Marcussen-Wulff, himself a member of the Bundesjazzorchester from 2001 to 2006. Together with instructors who have played with or under Peter Herbolzheimer, the Bujazzo is developing a program that brings the unmistakable sound language of this legendary big band heavyweight back to life. In addition to his own compositions, the program includes selected arrangements by long-time companions of Herbolzheimer, who have shaped the sound of the Bundesjazzorchester over the decades.

With "Thank you, Peter!", the Bujazzo is sending out a musical signal of appreciation for Peter Herbolzheimer. The young talents of the current line-up have the unique opportunity to get to know his music in the original arrangements and the audience can look forward to a very special experience.
