The letters from the years 1938 to 1985 tell of the intense friendships between the group around the Turin publishing house Einaudi. They provide an insight into the discussions in the literary world and show how much the artistic debates, unsparing judgments as well as encouragement and advice influenced writing, and they allow a glimpse into the workshop during the creation of novels such as Morante's Arturo's Island and Ginzburg's 'The Road to the City' or films such as Pasolini's 'The First Gospel - Matthew'. They also bear witness to the importance of very practical questions about money, awards and publication dates. Letters that are very personal, often imaginative, always finely worded and sometimes funny - especially when it comes to Morante's famous cats.
