CELEBRATE – Um Heimat in der Ferne zu finden

Celebrating is more than just a social event. It is a moment in which we strengthen our connection to our traditions and fellow human beings - even if we are geographically far away. However, celebrating is not just about remembering, but also about redefining. It is a process of bringing together old values and new perspectives, past and present.
The CELEBRATE project, a collaboration between the Hamburg-based music ensembles WelCombo and Rodovid, is dedicated to bringing together traditional musical styles from their members' countries of origin and transporting them into the present.

This collaboration will be brought to Hamburg stages in spring 2026. On two concert dates, WelCombo and Rodovid will perform traditional songs from Ukraine, Syria, Latvia, Ireland, Iran and the rest of the world.
The ensembles will each present their own arrangements and new pieces that they have arranged together - a symbiosis of the two bands. It is an invitation to bring together the old and the new - our stories, our sounds, our roots - and to experience them together.
The project is made possible by the kind support of the Elisabeth Kleber Foundation and the Berit and Rainer Baumgarten Foundation Fund under the umbrella of the Hamburgische Kulturstiftung.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

WelCombo is an intercultural collective of musicians from different countries that emerged from the Welcome Music Session at the Zinnschmelze. The ensemble reinterprets traditional folk songs, improvises and creates connections between cultures.

Rodovid is a Ukrainian a cappella group made up of professional singers who came to Germany during the war. Under the direction of ethnomusicologist Kateryna Zhuk, they present traditional Ukrainian song folklore in a new way and at the same time build bridges to the Hamburg music scene.
