CINDERELLA

Based on Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella composition(op. 87), choreographer Christopher Wheeldon has created an imaginative and endearing story ballet for all generations. Wheeldon based his choreography on the fairy tale Cinderella by the Brothers Grimm and the French version by Charles Perrault. As in Alice in Wonderland, Wheeldon manages to develop a stage plot with wit and imagination that is immediately accessible to the audience. The scenes are developed entirely from Sergei Prokofiev's famous ballet music and cover a whole spectrum of moods and emotions. Cinderella is shown as a character who relies on the power of dreaming to give her fate a new twist. Over 40 dancers in around 360 costumes by Julian Crouch are involved in the elaborate production. The work, which was created in 2012 as a co-production between the Dutch National Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet, celebrated its German premiere in Munich in November 2021.
