Não vamos sucumbir (We won't give in)
This documentary shows the background and resistance of the samba schools and illustrates the political nature of the carnival. It follows the preparations for Carnival 2020, through the period in which the parades were suspended due to the pandemic in 2021, to their resumption in 2022. The documentary takes stock of the history of the samba schools from their inception to the present day, highlighting the cultural power and socio-political impact of this phenomenon, which is considered the biggest show on the planet. The protagonists bear witness to the transformative role of carnival for Brazilian society and the importance of this cultural heritage.
