Cinema del Sol

In the organizer's words:

The solar traveling cinema is back on the road in the city and region of Hanover and will be showing special films in the open air in summer 2025.

The sun makes it possible

During the day, the sun emits more than 2 trillion watts of power onto the surface of the region. But we only need a good 240 watts for your special movie night. And how does that work in the dark? The two solar trailers collect the sun's rays in the days before the screening and convert them into electricity. So we can drive to the screening with charged batteries and then show what the sun has to offer in the dark.

In the tradition of traveling cinemas

The Cinema del Sol team has been traveling in the tradition of historic traveling cinemas in the Hanover region since 2017. These also brought films to villages and towns without a permanent movie theater and we are also allowed to show films in very special places. Sometimes we are in a market square, sometimes in an open-air swimming pool, in a historic park or even on a beautiful old estate.

What should you think about beforehand?

Many performances ask you to bring your own chair or blanket. It's always worth packing a jacket, as it can get a bit chilly in the evening. Admission to the "Cinema del Sol" screenings is free, but there is always a collection after the screening for the project or for another good cause. Depending on the location, a small flashlight may be useful for the way back.

September 12: Noon

About the movie

Ginger, 47 years old and a lecturer at Kiel University, has been wondering for some time where his place in life might actually be. When his "Olen" can no longer cope on their own, he decides to turn his back on life in the city and spend a sabbatical in his home village of Brinkebüll in the North Frisian nowhere. But he hardly recognizes the place of his childhood: there are hardly any people on the streets, because life takes place elsewhere, no village school, no corner store, no old chestnut tree on the village square, no storks, only corn grows in the fields, winding country roads have been turned into straightened highways. Sönke Feddersen, de Ole, is still stubbornly holding the fort behind his bar in the old village pub, while Ella, his wife, is increasingly losing her mind. Both make Ginger feel that he hasn't looked after her for far too long.
