Flowers, candles, photographs, mementos: Seven women decorate their own personal altars as places of remembrance and reappraisal. Each woman tells her own story. What they all have in common is the memory of a beautiful childhood from which they were violently torn away. December 1981, with the massacre of El Mozote, became the bloody climax of the civil war and the most terrible chapter in El Salvador's recent history. Torn between the army and the guerrillas, they were forced to flee into the mountains and seek refuge in caves - a struggle for survival with great losses and dramatic experiences. Nevertheless, they all found the courage to face their memories.
