Circulating Copies

In the organizer's words:

Circulating Copies is a biennial exhibition project by the IMAI - Inter Media Art Institute Foundation on screens and loudspeaker systems in Düsseldorf's urban space. Audiovisual media are present here every day and at the same time are hardly perceived as structures that can be shaped or changed. The second edition of the project is therefore dedicated to the question of how these infrastructures organize, negotiate and reflect on seeing and hearing in public space.

Public audiovisual infrastructures - screens, LED walls, announcement systems, public address systems - are not neutral carriers of information or entertainment. They are based on assumptions about how the majority of us see and hear, and how our attention "works". These assumptions produce exclusions: They privilege certain bodies, senses and ways of experiencing and render others invisible or inaudible. Circulating Copies starts here and asks how artistic interventions can make these conditions visible, audible and changeable. Seeing and hearing are not understood as universal abilities, but as different, situated and relational experiences that arise in concrete technical and social environments.

All events are free of charge. Registration is not required, but welcome.
