Yoora Park "Untitled (background activity)"

In the organizer's words:

For the screens in Düsseldorf subway stations, Yoora Park has developed a site-specific work that examines perception on the level of subtle vibrations and preconscious processes. Untitled (background activity) understands vibration as an inherent state of all things: a continuous, silent background activity that structures perception before it takes shape as sound or language.

Butterfly antennae pulsate in the picture, which the artist understands as an organ of preconscious perception. They stand for an experience in passing that is not bound to attention or comprehensibility. Park is interested in modes of perception that elude clear physical or cognitive attributions and in forms of knowledge that lie before language and conscious decisions.

The short videos are shown on information screens on the subway platforms at intervals that correspond to typical waiting times on the platform.
