Rafael-Evitan Grombelka "Deaf Cinderella"

In the organizer's words:

Rafael-Evitan Grombelka is developing a new sign language poetry performance in response to Gunter Trube's performance as the royal advisor in Akiko Hada's video opera The Fall of a Queen, or The Taste if Fruit to Come (1991). The work takes Trube's role as a starting point and expands it into its own sign language poetic perspective, which reflects and artistically develops the political and linguistic hierarchies of the opera.

The performance also ties in with Grombelka's earlier exploration of Trube's work, in particular Cinderella and Snow. By transferring the video into a live performance, the archive material is not only received, but also embodied, updated and renegotiated performatively. At the same time, the work is an artistic commemoration of Gunter Trube, with whom Grombelka had a personal and artistic connection.
