With "Cobalt Garden", Stephanie Thiersch creates a haunting performance for three dancers and the six singers of the Kölner Vokalsolisten: works by the Italian composer Barbara Strozzi meet the mystical Iroha singing of the Cologne-based Japanese composer Malika Kishino. The Cologne vocal soloists, MOUVOIR, Sören Leupold (theorbo), Jasper Diekamp (lighting) and Lauren Steel (costume), together with Stephanie Thiersch, create a multi-layered resonance space in which bodies, voices and sounds interpenetrate each other. They become a fragile vision of a utopian landscape.

Music by Johann Hermann Schein, Claudio Monteverdi, Carlo Gesualdo, Thomas Tallis, Francesca Caccini, Barbara Strozzi and others, as well as a composition commission from zamus to Malika Kishino, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
