In the organizer's words:

After their last album "Generation Maximum" (2023) and the joint single "Nail Salon" (2024) with Wolf Lehmann, the Viennese band CULK now presents their latest single.

"twenty, eighteen" was recorded and produced together with Sophie Lindinger (Leyya, My Ugly Clementine). The distinctive voice of Sophie Löw (alias Sophia Blenda) carries the song with cool intimacy through its nervous, floating dramaturgy.
And dives deep into a feeling of suspension between euphoria and emptiness, closeness and alienation.
The song functions like a flickering memory space: bright spotlights, synchronized nodding heads, heartbeats in the off-beat and, in the middle of it all, the quiet, nagging question of where you are: "Is my heart full? Is my heart numb? / Did we just start or am I done?"

CULK condense existential doubts into hypnotic mantras. The concert stage becomes a place of self-questioning, friendship a snapshot, the year 2018 a cipher for disorientation in a world that is constantly moving on without a clear direction.
"twenty, eighteen" is about being on the move, about losing and finding yourself again, about the feeling of being part of something and at the same time feeling strangely outside of it.

The lyrics revolve around collective states of intoxication and private voids, memories that linger on distorted loudspeakers and reverberate for a long time.

Musically, CULK mark the next step here: "twenty, eighteen" sounds more focused and more open at the same time, reduced to atmosphere and repetition, and develops a slowly unfolding maelstrom that won't let you go any time soon. Instead of grand gestures, the song focuses on tension through allusion, opening a new chapter in the band's sound.
As the first harbinger of a new album, which will be released later this year, "twenty, eighteen" already gives an idea of where CULK are heading next: towards an even more consistently formulated, hypnotic pop design between inner turmoil and collective catharsis.
