The thing

When the African Siwa allows himself to be talked into sustainable methods of cotton cultivation, this helps two Chinese to launch their first start-up. Their trade in soybeans has an impact on Romanian pig farming, which has direct consequences for Katrin and Thomas' marriage. Meanwhile, the eponymous "thing", a cotton fiber, travels around the globe and looks in amazement at the goings-on of the people. It connects their lives, which are completely distant from each other and yet intimately linked.
