A condensate is formed when one substance changes into another. It's about evaporation, compression and condensation. These are all words that justify the trio's band name and describe this truly new music. Their program, which can also be found on the current CD, is a sensual electro-acoustic improvisation story in eleven chapters.
The condensate jumps out of the museum into a now beyond various orthodox doctrines. It is jazz too, but only among other things. Curiosity is the greed for something new. That's what it's all about here, sometimes with a rocky-punchy, sometimes melodic-balladic approach, generated with new media in new contexts.
Gebhard Ullmann has decades of experience in dealing with modified sounds, with which he sometimes meanders his soprano and tenor saxophones through the thicket, sometimes lets them float up in the airy space, then again brings them to the point in a gripping way. Oliver Potratz's electric bass can be dark and gloomy and provide a striking foundation or take off into wonderful lines. Sometimes powerful and sometimes delicate, he lays a foundation. To describe Eric Schaefer's drumming as powerful, urgent and dynamic would be an understatement. He has long since drummed his way into the top ranks of European drummers. The result is a Berlin band of superlatives and yet it is more than the sum of its parts.
