THE LIFE OF DIOGENES. ALLES FÜR DIE TONNE
Monologue by and with Peter Trabner

At last: Peter Trabner is coming to Cologne with his pop-up theater concept! Having already shown his wild monologues at festivals, in galleries, in private and public gardens and in the forest, he is now setting up his quarters here at the Bauturm for the first time - and with his concept of semi-improvised dialog theater, in which conversations with the audience are an integral part of the performance, he will probably shake even the last firmly planted foundations of our theater.

Peter Trabner is active as an actor in theater, film and television, but his real vocation is probably to work as a primal force - at least that is how he is advertised on the website of the Düsseldorf Asphalt Festival, where his brilliant one-man shows already have a long tradition.Trabner's monologues take place somewhere in the zone between drama, improvisation and activism and yet are classic theatrical spectacles: Trabner creates a world out of nothing - and in this way raises powerful questions about sustainability, scarcity of resources and consumer behavior.

At the center of The Life of Diogenes. Alles für die Tonne focuses on the now iconic philosopher Diogenes of Sinope, who lived over 2,400 years ago as a street philosopher in the middle of the city of Athens - between the market square and the town hall, in a barrel. From there, he preached needlessness, exposed possessions and status as illusory worlds and searched with extreme consistency for the "true nature" beyond commodities. With his support, the production poses highly topical questions: What do we really need? Why do we have so much? And what does this abundance do to us, both socially and individually? Because the more we have, the greater the fear of losing something...

Without pain and regardless of losses, Peter Trabner climbs into the barrel at Diogenes in order to confront the seemingly unstoppable turbo-capitalism. In his attempt to really live the radical simplicity of Diogenes, he fails miserably as a modern affluent citizen with thousands of things, status symbols and possessions - and between the pool, leaf blower, Ikea advantage card and Marie Kondo book, he may have to face a completely different fear...
