Denkmale der Zukunft -- aber welche?

In the organizer's words:
Monuments of the future - but which ones?
Creative workshop for children and familiesfor children and families
On September 14, 2025, on Open Monument Day, we cordially invite you to the Neustädter Markt!

From 1 to 3 pm, we will discover together what stories monuments tell - and what questions they ask us today.
The starting point is the memorial to the fallen, in front of the Church of the Holy Cross on Neustädter Markt in Leipzig. Unveiled in 1926, it was intended to commemorate the 725 members of the Kreuzkirche parish who died in the First World War. Today, the memorial evokes very different reactions. The historical significance of the memorial between the two world wars, its topicality and its impact today are assessed differently.
Looking beyond the memorial, we want to think with the kids in our creative workshop:

What do monuments mean in our society?
What stories are missing so far?
And what could monuments of the future look like?

With the Monumental Bag, designed by Martha Schwindling and Marlene Oeken, we collect new ideas for Monument Day and are encouraged to observe our surroundings, think critically about memories and find gaps in the presentation of history. The workshop set was developed to invite young people to take a fresh look at monuments, ask questions and come up with their own monument ideas.
We look forward to an exciting and creative afternoon with you!
