A witty song recital with works by Hugo Wolf, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Mahler, Hanns Eisler, Benjamin Britten, Georg Kreisler and others.

In this extraordinary song recital, art song meets cabaret and classical song meets Viennese song and chanson. The Wiener Kaffeehaus is an institution. One of a kind. A place you visit not only to drink coffee, but above all to meet people, observe people, spend time and find inspiration. Many an artist, writer or musician has spent more time in a coffee house than at home. The characters you meet in a coffee house are as diverse as life itself - sometimes in love, sometimes lonely, sometimes successful, sometimes failed, sometimes enthusiastic, sometimes disappointed...

In songs from Hugo Wolf to Gustav Mahler, Benjamin Britten to Hanns Eisler and Ira Gershwin to Georg Kreisler, we encounter these coffee house characters and their stories - charmingly and captivatingly performed by three artists who are well known to the IHWA: Hagar Sharvit
(mezzo-soprano), Mikhail Timoshenko (baritone) and Elitsa Desseva (piano). Humorous and always with a wink, they prove once again that genre boundaries exist only in the mind. Director Nikolaus Büchel - a native of Vienna who is also no stranger to Stuttgart - gives the whole thing a cabaret touch. And in the end, it remains to be seen whether Georg Kreisler is right...
