DIE FRAGE (Petra Bosch & Thomas Klein)

On Wednesday, June 10, DIE FRAGE will bring a raw sound characterized by synths and drums to the music bar in the Bunker.

Petra Bosch and Thomas Klein (Kreidler, Sølyst) started out 20 years ago as the electronic folk project fauna with an autumnal, melancholy sound. The lyrics explored and formulated interpersonal imbalances and abysses. After a long break, the Düsseldorf duo returned to the stage in 2023 and presented minimalist versions of well-known texts and songs from Bach to Bauhaus with thematic rigor.

As DIE FRAGE, the duo has now energetically recalibrated itself and is following new musical paths with a rougher sound characterized by synths and drums. The music is sometimes crashing, creaky and edgy, but can also be solemn or melodic. Sometimes poppy or rocking, song-like or in club garb, the pieces always remain entertaining and catchy. Between sequences and analog drum beats, dreamlike, Dadaist-sounding text fragments with strange poetic power are gathered together.

The fragmentary texts, which at first glance appear incoherent and random, formulate current social conditions and sensitivities. The questions they raise run through social and individual helplessness and lack of support in the face of a world that has become too complex, in which the failure of one's own actions seems unavoidable.

Provocative and challenging, but also compassionate and dreamy, images are sketched in which we feel our own destructive potential for action in the world or stumble over our feet on the way to a better world.

Peeled out of blackened pages, meandering through language, DIE FRAGE entices and repels, promises and betrays, explains and puzzles us about the sensual world in confused, wild images, moving and determined but completely unsuspecting.
